OUR HISTORY

Owner Jim Howe graduated from Ames High School

in 1980, with a gold medal from the State of lowa High

HW School Welding Competition. He joined the United States

Navy in 1980, serving onboard USS L.Y. Spear AS-36

sub-tender until 1986. He was top of his class in the US

Navy Welding School and is certified for non-nuclear

high-pressure plate and pipe, US Navy Standards. He

also completed the US Navy heat treatment of metals and

aluminum MIG & TIG school. Jim remained in the Naval

Reserves until 2006.

Howe’s Welding and Metal Fabrication was opened in 1986

at its current location, 811 South Duff. The business has

been running for over 35 years. Jim and his staff can tackle
most any job, and are not afraid of problem-solving.
